For many students considering their next steps after GCSEs, deciding between A Levels, vocational qualifications and apprenticeships can be a difficult choice. For Adam, however, the decision was clear once he discovered our Digital Software Development T Level.
Now in the second year of his studies, Adam has been recognised by his tutors for his excellent attitude to learning, strong work ethic and dedication to his subject. His journey demonstrates how T Levels can provide a direct route into industry, higher education and future careers in rapidly evolving sectors.

Adam's interest in technology began long before college. He told us:
"I've always liked coding. We used Scratch in primary school, and I enjoyed it from then on."
After studying Computer Science at GCSE, Adam realised he was particularly interested in software development and wanted a qualification that would allow him to specialise in the area he enjoyed most.
"The GCSE covered lots of different topics, but I wanted to focus specifically on software development. The T Level allowed me to do that."
Unlike traditional study programmes, T Levels are developed in collaboration with employers to ensure students gain the skills and knowledge businesses are looking for. The Digital Software Development T Level combines classroom learning with substantial industry experience, helping students develop both technical expertise and workplace readiness.
Throughout the course, Adam has developed programming skills across a range of languages and technologies, including Python, HTML, CSS and PHP, while also using industry-standard software and development tools.

As artificial intelligence continues to transform the technology sector, Adam has also explored how emerging technologies are shaping the future of software development.
"AI is becoming a bigger part of the industry, but it's still important to understand what's happening behind the code... The course gives you the knowledge to understand what you're doing, rather than relying on technology to do it all for you."
A key part of every T Level is the industry placement, with students completing a minimum of 315 hours of workplace experience. For Adam, these placements have provided an opportunity to apply his classroom learning in professional environments and develop valuable employability skills. His experiences have included a placement at JMI Hangar in Kidlington, as well as working remotely with software development and AI company Kino Labs.

One project he is particularly proud of involved creating a cipher program that could encrypt and decrypt messages using a randomly generated key.
"It was something I worked on during my placement, and I really enjoyed building it and seeing it work."
With his T Level nearing completion, Adam is already exploring progression opportunities.
His long-term interests are increasingly focused on robotics and artificial intelligence, and he is currently considering university courses that combine programming, engineering and emerging technologies.
"I enjoy coding, but I also like practical things like electronics and building things... Robotics is an area that really interests me."
Whether he chooses university or a degree apprenticeship, Adam feels his T Level has provided a strong foundation for the future.
When asked what advice he would give to prospective students, Adam highlights the importance of embracing the industry placement element of the qualification, by researching and contacting employers as soon as possible.
