Martyn Holmes Inspires Ambitious Hairdressers

15th Jan 2020

Hairdressing students at the College’s Abingdon campus were treated to a day of tutorials, top tips and career guidance from industry expert, and judge from Channel Five’s ‘Extreme Hair Wars’, Martyn Holmes!

Martyn’s experience ranges from entrepreneurial, running several successful salons, as an educator with the Lee Stafford Academy, to the TV appearances and being a leading hair stylist.

During the day, students watched Martyn demonstrate the ‘Vintage Tong’, a Lee Stafford recipe. Students were then able to get hands-on and try their hand at this style, with guidance from Martyn and his colleague Jayne Schauenburg.

Fellowship of British Hairdressing council member Martyn said: “Experience is a word we use for our mistakes. I say, let’s make more mistakes!”

“I loved sharing my experiences with these young, ambitious hairdressers.”

Megan, a student said: “I really enjoyed learning from Martyn’s expertise. Some of his tips I had never heard of, so I’m excited and feeling really motivated to start perfecting them!”

Hairdressing lecturer, Jackie Chatterton said: “It’s an amazing experience for our students to learn from Martyn Holmes and Jayne Schauenburg, who between them have years of industry experience and knowledge to share. They were able to give the students some great career advice and inspire them to keep working at it.”
