The Level 2 in Countryside Conservation is a one-year, full-time, college-based course which mixes practical studies with the underpinning knowledge needed to support students' progression to further study and employment. Topics studied include Health and safety, Work Experience (minimum 150 hours), Machinery, Conservation and habitat improvement, Estate maintenance, Species identification and surveying, Environmental conservation of flora and fauna, Land and countryside use, and Countryside interpretation. Students will work on the college estate, and experience a variety of other local farms and estates.

Successful students may progress into employment, apprenticeships, or onto further study e.g. Level 3 in Land & Wildlife

4 GCSES at grade 3 including English, Maths and preferably Science (Combined or Biology) OR a Level 1 pass in a related subject
English or maths, should be at least grade 2 / Level 1 Functional Skills.

In addition to the main course fees given below there are the opportunity to purchase items of college-branded uniform and overalls (cost of approximately £50) and attend optional additional trips (cost of approximately £80). You will be required to provide yourself with a set of safety boots and/or wellingtons for practical activities. You may be eligible for a bursary to help with these costs.

As part of your course we may organise trips to assist you with your learning. Trips are optional, and you will not be penalised if you choose not to participate.
